An F2 visa is meant for the spouse / children of a
student in the U.S who is on an F1 status.
The parameters in which a visa officer will
look into for a F2 visa are:
Your bonafide student status.
The genuinity of the Marriage.
Proof of substantial funds in the U.S, so that your
spouse/Children do not become a public charge.
So the documents would be:
- An I20 with your spouse /children's name endorsed
in it.
- Letters form your professors confirming your student
status, and comments on your performance. You can
also send your semester wise mark sheets that you
have so far).
- Confirmation of your assistantship, the amounts
and for how many more semesters it will continue.
Tuition waivers if any.
- Running bank statements for at least 6 months.
It should have a balance of a little over what is
specified in the I20 for both you and your spouse
/ children.
- Marriage certificates, photographs and family Photographs.
- Xerox copies of all pages of your passport depicting
visa validity for at least a year.
- And above all, that your spouse / children are
requesting visa until the duration of your course
only and will return with you.
- You should have at least a year’s study left.
If you have only a few months left the visa officer
would tell your dependants that you will be returning
shortly, and reject their visas on that basis alone.
