UK Work Permit allows a person to work in the UK in
a specific role for a particular company. The application
for Work Permit has to be filed by the sponsoring company
in the UK on behalf of the proposed employee to the
Home Office, Work Permits (UK). A Work Permit is granted
by Work Permits (UK) for a job where a suitable person
is not easily found in the UK and the prospective employee
has the requisite qualifications or skills and experience.
For this purpose, the employer has to necessarily demonstrate
that the job vacancy has been advertised, however, not
for all categories of jobs. The work permit can be valid
up to a period of 5 years depending on the length of
the duration requested by the employer, however, at
the discretion of the Home Office.
Eligibility Criteria:
The position for which the British Work Permit is sought
must meet
National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level 3
and above. If the Work Permit visa candidate works in
a profession, then s/he may be required to be registered
with the governing body of the profession. For example,
a doctor must register with the General Medical Council
(GMC) to be permitted to practice medicine in UK.
Educational Qualification:
A Work Permit UK visa candidate must have either –
- A degree or
- An Higher
National Diploma (HND) level qualification which
is relevant to the offered post or
- An HND level qualification which is not relevant
to the offered post plus one year of relevant full
time work experience at NVQ level 3 and above or
- No degree and three years of relevant experience.
Documents Required:
The documents that is required to be submitted by the
employee at the respective British Consulate or Embassy
for entry clearance in lieu of work permit to the United
Kingdom depends on a number of factors. It is to be
observed whether the proposed employer is applying a
work permit for the first time or has applied for work
permits in the past. Further, we have to see whether
or not the candidate is being transferred within an
international group of companies. Moreover, if the proposed
employee had the last work permit application before
four years ago, then it will be treated as if he has
not obtained permits in the past. Therefore, in accordance
with these variations, the requisite documents will
also vary.
