I am here to say a few words at the insistence of Mr.
Venkatagiri. I would rather that Gil gets the maximum
time. He has come all the way from New York to share
with you the nuances of U.S business immigration laws.
Contrary to the notions that exist about Women and
their ages, I have no qualms in candidly saying that
I am an “old hag” in this
industry, although in this new avatar, in this new brand
name of Korenberg Abroamowitz Raj & Mathi, we are
very much in our nascent stages. And as always when
you are young, you are aggressive, ambitious and aspire
for the stars. Five to 10 years down the line we would
very much like to be projected as a GLOBAL IMMIGRATION
LAW FIRM, and much as we are aware of the intense
effort required to achieve that goal, we have focused
our course on that elusive star.
I would like to mention here a 1985 quote by E.
Hull,
“With only a small degree of hyperbole
U.S immigration laws have been termed second only to
the Internal Revenue Code in complexity. A lawyer is
often the only person who can thread the labyrinth.”
When Hull made this comment in 1985, there were no
Dot com bubble burst, no economic downturn or 9/11 issues.
I’m sure he would have conceded today that immigration
laws are the most complex or the first in complexity.
Immigration laws are also supposed to bear a striking
resemblance to King Mino’s labyrinth in ancient
Crete.
Some of the laws are outdated, some are updated,
and we are left inundated.
Anyway, we have made it our business to study analyze
and dissect these laws to serve our clients in the best
possible way. Seven years ago you would not have been
able to find boutique law firms like us specializing
in U.S immigration laws in South India, leave alone
Chennai. In a way my colleagues and I have been pioneers
in bringing this niche area of law into this part of
the world.
With the difficulties in getting web appointments and
the urgency in travel for most corporate employees,
it is so important that you get it right the very first
time. I am not saying here, that we can guarantee a
visa, that is the sole discretion of the visa officers.
But we can definitely present the case, in terms of
counseling the client and documentation at least 10
times better than any lay person can, thereby increasing
your chances of a visa ten fold.
I would also like to quickly mention here that we are
equally passionate about U.K immigration laws. Remember
that Britain ruled half the world at one time, and allows
“Ancestry visas” to the descendants of its
subjects if they were nationals of any of its British
Overseas Territories during a specific time frame. Talk
about complexity and more inundation. But with a presence
in London, we are equally competent to handle the complete
spectrum of visas for the United Kingdom. We try our
very best to stay on top of things and without being
judgmental we have handled cases of the newly enacted
civil partnership too. As you may be aware, that law
was enacted as recently as December 2005.
The Nike ad says, “ Just do it”, all I’m
saying here is “JUST USE US”.
