The British Prime Minister and European Union President
Tony Blair in his visit to India during September 2005
as part of the delegation to attend the sixth India
– EU Business Summit stressed the importance of
strengthening Indo – British relations, especially
in terms of mutual economic and trade ties. The summit
further gave an impetus to the Global Wok Permit visa
proposed by India, as United Kingdom is likely to support
the concept to permit more short-term access to skilled
professionals in that country.
In light of the changing scenario, the UK government’s
Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP) is turning into
one of the most popular routes for skilled young Indians
to work in the UK. The rationale behind HSMP is to welcome
skilled immigrants who are a benefit to the economy
and play a productive role in society. Moreover, it
is felt that the HSMP applicants are able to fill in
critical skills gaps to supplement the UK labour market.
The Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP) is designed
to allow highly skilled individuals to migrate to the
United Kingdom and to work as employed or self-employed
persons. You do not require a prior confirmed offer
for a job or to take up self-employment opportunities
in order to have your visa application approved by the
Home Office’s Immigration and Nationality Directorate.
It is an excellent visa to obtain, because it provides
you with the freedom to undertake work in your chosen
field and to change employers without applying for another
permit. Therefore, the HSMP is a superior visa to a
Business and Commercial work permit.
The HSMP was created to attract skilled people to the
UK because of the acute shortage of qualified professionals
that exists there, particularly in the fields of healthcare
engineering and teaching. The HSMP works by setting
out various qualifying criteria that allow applicants
to earn points. Points may be earned for graduate or
post-graduate degrees, for past earnings amongst other
criteria. If the applicant earns enough points then
he or she is eligible to enter the UK under the scheme.
The Highly Skilled Migrant Programme visa is initially
granted for a period of twenty four months. An application
for extension to the HSMP can be made at the end of
the twenty third month, provided you are able to prove
that you have been working and economically sound. The
HSMP remains the best immigration scheme for skilled
professionals because successful applicants may apply
for UK Permanent Residency after five years, allowing
them free access to the EU region.
Our team of experienced immigration attorneys at KARM
Immigration Services (P) Ltd will apply on
your behalf directly to Work Permits (UK) and obtain
the official HSMP approval letter. Moreover, we also
prepare your visa application for the respective British
Embassy or the Consulate in order to get you entry clearance
to the United Kingdom.
